Govt assures Constables found in river will be given fitting send-off

Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae has given the assurance that government will ensure that the three police Constables whose bodies were retrieved from the Hennops River in Centurion are given a fitting send-off.

She was present at a mortuary in Bloemfontein on Sunday when the bereaved families received the bodies of the officers.

The families had earlier fetched the bodies from the Pretoria Central Mortuary and conducted traditional rituals at the scene of the crash.

A joint memorial service of the officers will take place in Bobiespark, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday.

Letsoha-Mathae says funeral arrangements are being finalised.

She says, “So we really need a thorough planning in terms of that, as we’ve got a police band and arrangement internally. We have to sit down with SAPS (South African Police Service) and plan so that others don’t feel like they’re not getting the same support. We just have to try to be consistent in everything we do. I think Tuesday will be finalising all those details.”
