The 8th Global Fund Replenishment Summit has mobilised over R190 billion to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria across the world, especially in high-burden countries.
The meeting was held on the margins of the G20 Summit underway in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says the Global Fund partnership has saved 70 million lives since 2002, and cut the combined death rate from HIV, TB and Malaria by 63%.
National Health Department spokesperson, Foster Mohale says, “Minister Motsoaledi commends the unwavering dedication of donor countries, private sector and philanthropic organisations that espoused the virtues of multilateralism through the replenishment campaign. The Minister emphasised the importance of multi-sectoral approaches in strengthening health responses by encouraging “governments, civil society, private sector, and communities” to stand united because our fates are intertwined.”
