President Cyril Ramaphosa must provide a progress report and not just bring new promises when he delivers the State of the Nation Address at the Cape Town City Hall later Thursday evening, that is according to EFF Spokesperson, Sinawo Tambo.
Speaking to SABC News ahead of the much-anticipated address by the president, Tambo accused the president of repeating promises and speaking “as if it’s his first address every time”.
“We need to keep Ramaphosa accountable in terms of the promises that he has made at the previous State of the Nation Addresses. He uses every State of the Nation Address as an opportunity to make new promises, as if his term is beginning afresh. We want to know where is the train, the smart city, what is he doing to curb crime, to protect our communities from protection fees, extortion gangs, gang violence and all the criminality that has been going on?” says Tambo.
“Yet, he keeps a minister in his cabinet who has been accused of corrupting law enforcement agencies in the form of Senzo Mchunu who is being paid by the taxpayers’ money while doing no job,” he adds.

He says Ramaphosa must be judged on what he has delivered and not what he promises to deliver in the future.
Ramaphosa is expected to deliver his address at 19h00 this evening.
Tambo says without juxtaposing what was said previously and getting a progress report, the SONA could turn out to be a waste of resources that could be directed elsewhere to improve the lives of people.
