FILE | Christmas lights
George’s Oewer Street in the Western Cape is lit up for the festive season once again attracting hordes of visitors for the annual Christmas lights spectacular.
Since 2001, residents have been decorating the outside of their homes for the public to enjoy. What started as a tradition is now a tourist attraction. Every year, it’s bigger and better and brings nothing but smiles to both young and old.
A host of charities benefit from donations made by visitors.
Denise Human is one of the Oewer street residents, “We do it for charity and not for ourselves. This year we’ve got three charities, ODIN which is for the dogs, CHOCK which is the childhood cancer foundation and the Western Cape blood bank. We are dedicated to what we do and to all the smiles of the children. Thank you to everyone for visiting us and giving us donations, we really appreciate it.”
