General Sibiya to appear before Madlanga Commission

Suspended deputy national police commissioner for crime detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya is expected to take to the stand at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria on Wednesday.

General Sibiya is at the centre of corruption allegations. He has been accused of having close relations with attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

At the centre of corruption allegations made against General Sibiya are the 121 dockets taken from the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

General Sibiya has been accused of moving the dockets from KwaZulu-Natal to the national office in Pretoria – resulting in investigations being halted.

Various witnesses who have testified before the Madlanga Commission have stated that Sibiya had no authority to effect this move.

The Madlanga Commission is investigating allegations of corruption in law enforcement agencies and the infiltration of alleged criminal cartels in these institutions.

Earlier this month, Witness F told the Commission that Sibiya invited Matlala and Organised Crime Head Richard Shibiri to a Thanksgiving ceremony.

Witness F was grilled about a meeting that Sibiya, Matlala and Shibiri had attended.

Last year November, Intelligence Head General Dumisani Khumalo revealed how Sibiya sometimes utilizes a car registered under a serial hijacker of vehicles.
