Andre Lincoln
The retired head of the Western Cape’s Anti-Gang Unit, Andre Lincoln, will be laid to rest today in Cape Town.
Lincoln, who was once part of Nelson Mandela’s personal security detail and later led high-profile investigations, passed away recently at the age of 63.
The Reverend Michael Weeder is expected to lead the funeral service, with a tribute from struggle cleric Dr Allan Boesak.
Major-General André Lincoln will be honoured with a Category 2 Special Provincial Official Funeral at St. James Church in Kenilworth, Cape Town. Lincoln served as part of Nelson Mandela’s personal security team shortly after Mandela’s release from prison and later headed the Presidential Investigation Task Unit.
Most recently, he led the Western Cape’s Anti-Gang Unit, working tirelessly to combat gang violence until his retirement in 2021.
