GDE unfazed by court outcome against PTA High School for Girls

The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) says it is not worried about the High Court challenge tomorrow by the school governing body of Pretoria High School for Girls following the findings of a probe into allegations of racism at the school.

The School Governing Body (SGB) is taking legal action against the department following the findings of a probe into allegations of racism at the school. It’s demanding the department release the full report and halt any action based on the outcomes of the report.

At least twelve pupils were suspended in July this year on allegations of racism. The principal at the school was also suspended for allegedly failing to take action when she was made aware of WhatsApp messages that allegedly had racist undertones in 2023.

Education MEC Matome Chiloane says, “But we are not worried. We know we have done everything right and the sad part is that they continue to do wrong things. And we are not going to renege from our responsibilities. it’s not the first time a school is taking us to court. We have many cases in the Constitutional Court that find the GDE against a school. So we have been there we know, and it is good for our democracy that we are at this point so that we can clarify certain blurry areas in our constitution.”
