Gautrain, Rea Vaya urge motorists to shift to public transport

The Gautrain and the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit System have urged motorists to shift from private to public transport. The two entities have launched a campaign in which they will collaborate in dealing with growing traffic volumes in Johannesburg.

The campaign was launched in Sandton as part of Transport Month.

The aim of the campaign is to promote integrated, cleaner and more reliable public transport across the city.

Gautrain Management Agency CEO, Tshepo Kgobe says they want to make public transport more inclusive.

“Access is not only about access to a certain quarter of the population, it’s about access for everyone, including those who cannot afford it. And therefore, as Gautrain, we are making sure that through clever moves, we are creating a 50% discount on our normal fares for those who cannot afford to use the system in the normal sense. This is for the greater good of the planet, to ensure that we can, in the long term, create a sustainable way of living and a better life.”
