Gauteng’s fly infestation attributed to hot, humid weather

Pest control experts say hot and humid weather conditions are contributing to the current fly infestation in Gauteng.

Residents have been complaining about too many flies in their homes. Mario Pluke, a technical manager of a pest control company, has recommended cleaning and disinfecting surfaces regularly to eliminate food residue.

“Flies are always around us. Everywhere you go, you will probably find flies. But I think the weather patterns that we’ve been having, I think that’s probably one of the key reasons why we seem to have had some sort of explosion of life because our pose is obviously always about prevention. How do you prevent flies firstly from infesting a particular premise. So, you look at what is creating flies in your house. If it means wiping a table, cleaning your cups, making sure you don’t leave anything standing around. Make sure that you clean up as you go. So, all of those things are the basic stuff that can assist you in making sure that you are house safe, fly free.”
