Gauteng Roads and Transport Dept monitoring sinkhole in Carletonville

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s spokesperson Lesiba Mpya says they will continue to monitor the sinkhole at the R500 road in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg, and provide updates of any developments.

Mpya’s sentiments come amid motorists being to avoid the road due to a sinkhole that has caved in over 80% of the surface.

“Motorists are urged to use alternative routes, obey all road closure signs in the interest of safety and exercise extreme caution when approaching or travelling in and around the area. The department will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update as more information comes through.”
