Police and other safety officials conduct inspections as part of the #SaferFestiveSeason campaign in Gauteng on New Year’s Eve.
Gauteng Traffic Police have urged road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations ahead of the New Year crossover.
Spokesperson Sello Maremane emphasises the importance of being vigilant on the roads, citing the dangers of drunk driving, excessive speeding and pedestrian negligence.
“Residents are advised to ensure that their homes are securely locked whenever they are away. Residents are also advised to make use of their neighbourhood watch mechanism in order to prevent any form of criminality,” Maremane says.
“Motorists are advised to comply with the rules of the road traffic signs and markings. Pedestrians are advised to cross the road only when it is safe to do so. Holidaymakers are urged not to crack fireworks close to animals as this may cause injury and strain to the animals,” he adds.
As part of the Safer Festive Season campaign, Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale, and Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mthombeni, led a roadblock aimed at ensuring compliance and enhancing road safety.#GrowingASaferGauteng #SaferFestiveSeason pic.twitter.com/useQd2z8v7
