Gauteng records increase in international visitors in 2024/25

The Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) says the province has recorded 3.8 million international visitors in 2024/25 which is up from 2.6 million from the previous financial year.

This came out during the launch of World Tourism month.

Tourism Minister of Patricia De Lille is launching the campaign at the Zoo Lake in Johannesburg  under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

The event celebrates the rich diversity of Mzansi’s vibrant culture.

GTA Chief Marketing Officer Barba Gaoganediwe says Gauteng is playing host to the World Tourism Day as the province accounts to close to 4 million of South Africa’s international arrivals.

“Gauteng is proud to play champion host to World Tourism Day this year and especially under the theme of sustainable tourism. It means better access of tourism infrastructure, better showcase of the experiences that are being provided in our townships. It means more of our products being presented in their indigenous language and in their indigenous form. Suitability means making sure that places like Mamelodi, Kagiso are always put into the mainstream. Gauteng accounts for just over 3.8 million of the international arrivals into South Africa of the 8.9 million that comes into South Africa.”
