The Gauteng Department of Community Safety says they will ensure that heightened law enforcement operations are conducted across the province. This comes after more than 700 suspects have been arrested so far through Operation Shanela in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg.
In a separate incident, two of the most wanted cash-in-transit robbers and murder suspects were killed in a shootout with police officers in Boksburg in Ekurhuleni.
“We have noted the arrests that have come as a result of Operation Shanela by the SAPS in Diepsloot last night. We have also noted the Boksburg incident in which two of the country’s most wanted cash-in-transit dangerous suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with police. We will continue with our heightened operations this afternoon until the early hours as we end the weekend to deal with motorists who do not comply with rules of the road and criminality and lawlessness across the various crime hotspots across the province,” says Spokesperson for the Department, Ofentse Morwane.
