Gauteng police destroy drugs worth over R400 million

The South African Police Service has destroyed drugs and unauthorised medicine worth over R400 million at an undisclosed location in Gauteng.

The drugs were confiscated in different parts of the country including O.R Tambo International Airport and KwaZulu-Natal.

Addressing the media, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says in the past three years, over R5.3 billion worth of drugs have been destroyed.

He says the fight against drugs continues as they are destroying communities.

“We meet here today to send a clear message that SAPS will not tollgate profits made from poisoning our communities through drugs. This destruction is not just symbolic; it is a powerful demonstration of our ongoing efforts to dismantle the drug trade and ensure the health and safety and the future of our nation.”
