Wreaths and South African flags are seen at the wall of remembrance of the Gauteng South African Police Service during the Provincial Commemoration Day at the Linden Garden of Remembrance in Johannesburg.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has paid tribute to fallen officers who died in the line of duty during the 2024/2025 financial year during a Provincial Commemoration Day in Johannesburg.
The event took place at the Linden Garden of Remembrance.
Wreaths were laid and the names of the four deceased members were engraved on the SAPS Gauteng memorial wall.
The commemoration highlights the dangers faced by police and the impact of police killings which is a significant concern for the province.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says the fallen officers stayed true to their oath of office.
“As I said last year in 2024, these brave men and women in blue did not flee when they were faced with danger. They stood up firm and defended the defenceless and stayed true to their oath of office.”
