Gauteng parents urged to apply timeously for school admissions

Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, has warned parents against waiting until the last minute to apply for school admissions for their children.

Chiloane was briefing the media in Johannesburg on the department’s readiness for the 2026 online admissions.

Applications for learners who will be going to Grades 1 and 8 next year will open from this coming Thursday until August.

Chiloane says parents who apply after the closing date should not expect to get their preferred schools.

“It is advisable that parents apply during this window period because that one only works for schools that are available. We will not be able to place your child next to you because you are late. So, parents need to apply on time. Unfortunately, they will only be allowed to access schools that they see on the system,” he says.
