The Department of Human Settlements in Gauteng has revealed that it is in the process of reforming its housing delivery system due to delays.
The department says it will remove underperforming contractors, among others.
The department’s spokesperson, Tahir Sema, says they will also recover delayed housing projects across the province by replacing liquidated contractors.
“The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has taken bold steps to reform and recover stalled housing projects across the province, as outlined in the latest report from the Department’s Project Management Office. The department acknowledges the delays experienced in certain developments and has moved decisively to replace poor-performing contractors, strengthen oversight, and restore progress at previously blocked sites.”
Seema adds: “Through this focused Reform and Recovery Programme, multiple housing developments including Montrose, Drieziek, Weilers Farm, Vlakfontein, and Thulamntwana have transitioned from inactivity to visible on-site progress, with defined delivery milestones.”
