The Gauteng Provincial Government says it is not yet in a position to confirm whether its budget will be maintained or withdrawn ahead of a third attempt at tabling the National Budget next week.

Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development Legobang Maile earlier announced that the provincial government underspent by R1.8 billion by the end of the 2024-25 financial year.

Maile says all finance MECs and the Finance Minister are scheduled to meet at a Budget Council tomorrow to discuss budget plans ahead Enoch Godongwana’s Budget announcement.

Maile was addressing the media in Johannesburg.

“Are we going to withdraw the budget or not. Tomorrow there is what we call a Budget Council where the Minister of Finance and all MECs of finance will be meeting and we will know whether they will cut any budgets on our part, whether there’s going to be any changes and that will determine whether we leave this Budget as is or we amend it to the legislature, but the legislature has already been informed by National that they should be ready if we have to withdraw and present a new Budget,”
