Gauteng Education to assess learner attendance after ten days

The Gauteng Department of Education says it will determine the number of learners who will not return to schools in the province after a ten-day headcount period.

Parents and guardians have been queuing at various centres in the province, hoping to secure placements for their children in preferred schools.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says the ten-day period is crucial for finalizing numbers.

“What is likely to change is the numbers. You will know how many children are not coming back to school because we give them ten days. We call it the ten-day headcount. After ten school days, we will be able to know how many children are not coming back to school,” Mabona explained.
