The Gauteng Traffic Police says the province has recorded 14 fatal crashes since the start of the Easter long weekend, claiming the lives of 15 road users, nine of them pedestrians.

Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Obed Sibasa says traffic volumes are expected to increase on Sunday afternoon and into Monday, as holidaymakers return from their various destinations.

He has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to all safety regulations.

Sibasa says Gauteng road safety promotions advise motorists and other road users to adhere to the rules of the road.

“Gauteng traffic police and other law enforcement agencies are continuing with multi-disciplinary law enforcement operations. Roadblocks, block patrols, search and stop operations, expect to be stopped, searched, and vehicles inspected. We urge road users to take charge of their safety and the safety of other road users,” adds Sibasa.
