The Gauteng Small Bus Operators’ Council (GASBOC), which the provincial Education Department has contracted to provide scholar transport services, has confirmed that it will resume operations this Monday.
This follows the receipt of outstanding payments for November, December and January from the department.
The payment issues led to the suspension of services, leaving thousands of learners across the province stranded.
GASBOC chairperson, Jabulani Khumalo, has welcomed the department’s intervention.
“Operation of scholar transport services will resume as normal from the 16th of February 2026. I would like to thank Mr Matume Chiloane, the MEC of Education, for his intervention to make sure that the December and November payments are made. We also like to convey our sincere apologies to the parents and learners for all the inconvenience caused during our suspension of service.”
