A prison cell block.
The High Court in Johannesburg has sentenced a 37-year-old gardener, Pardon Danhire, to 20 years in prison for the murders of Nadine Terblanche and her son, Ruandre Voster.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane says the sentencing follows Danhire entering into a plea and sentencing agreement with the state.
The court further ordered that five years of Danhire’s sentence be suspended, on condition that he testifies against his co-accused Frederick Stapelberg, whose trial is set for next month.
Danhire worked as a gardener, hired by Stapelberg.
Stapelberg allegedly contacted him with a promise of R100 000 payment to kill his girlfriend Terblanche and her son.
Their lifeless bodies were discovered by a local security company in Randhart, Alberton, in November 2023.
Mjonondwane says, “Danhire was sentenced to 25 years on each of the two counts of murder, with the court ordering the sentencing to run concurrently and further suspending five years of the sentence on condition that he will testify in the trial against co-accused Frederick Stapelberg starting on March the 25th. We will henceforth focus on the upcoming trial against Stapelberg with the aim of ensuring that justice prevails.”
