Full electricity restoration in Joburg CBD by Monday: City Power

Johannesburg’s City Power says electricity is expected to be fully restored to parts of the City centre, Marshalltown, Selby and surrounding areas by Monday next week.

This follows a fire that damaged City Power’s underground infrastructure after cable theft and vandalism.

City Power’s Isaac Mangena says 60% of affected customers have their power back.

However, they still have to install six more cables to reinstate 100% of the power supply.

“During the clearing of the debris we bumped into, we found some of the cable cutting tools, which suggest that this fire could have been started by the cable theft. In fact some of the cables had already been cut off. It looked like they were just waiting to be pulled out onto the surface by the vandals,” says Mangena.
