Women holding placards calling for an end in GBV.
Scores of women from various organisations across the Free State are gathering at Hoffman Square in Bloemfontein to picket against gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.
The Bloemfontein picket is organised by women’s rights advocacy group, Buang Basadi, as part of the nationwide call for gender-based violence to be declared a State of Disaster.
The organisation is joined by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the African National Congress Women’s League.
The organisation will also hold a 15-minute silent lie-down in remembrance of women who lost their lives due to GBV.
