A scene where packaged foodstuffs intended to be delivered for underground illegal miners were found at a farm near R708 outside Theunissen.
Police in Theunissen in the Free State have intercepted thousands of food items that were believed to be delivered to illegal miners underground.
They have also arrested six people, three men and three women while they were busy with food packaging.
Police discovered 2500 cans of energy drinks, 2600 tins of corned meat, 2600 instant porridge and 2000 packs of powdered milk.
Police spokesperson Thabo Covane says they worked with the South African National Defence Force in the operation.
“The team searched the premises and discovered that the house was under surveillance with highly sophisticated cameras which can be monitored from another location. A case docket of conspiracy to commit the crime of illicit mining and aiding illegal underground miners was opened at Theunissen police station. The suspects will appear before court soon.”
