The Free State Education Department, together with the Department of Community Safety and Transport, has developed an app to monitor school transport.
This as a measure to regulate and boost scholar transport safety in the province. Scholar transport safety recently came under scrutiny after 14 learners died in a collision in the Vaal.
Provincial Education Spokesperson, Howard Ndaba says, last year principals and district officials were trained and made aware of how to identify vehicles and drivers not complying with legislation, and to immediately report any vehicle that is not in good condition on the app.

Ndaba says the app has been in use since 14 January 2026.
“We have trained our principals and district officials on the system so that they are able to help identify non-compliance vehicle and drivers. Principals can report faulty vehicles with pictures. Weekly evaluation of drivers and vehicle performance help maintain high standards. Safety requirements include valid roadworthy certificate, valid professional driving’s permit and operating permit for operators,” he adds.
