The Free State Education Department says it’s eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the final matric exams results for the class of 2024.

For the previous five years, the province has maintained position one with matric results, with the class of 2023 performing better than the previous cohorts as they managed to attain 89 percent.

Spokesperson Howard Ndaba says the department has done everything in its powers to support the learners and teachers.

Ndaba says they gave all the schools the necessary support they required.

“As such we remain confident that will perform well owing to the intervention that we deployed to our school learners. And owing to the support that we have been received from parents, from SGBs, from business, from the communities from community-based organisations, from the churches and we want to take this opportunity to thank them for supporting education because in our view education is a societal matter. We have worked together will all the stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, education experts have warned against comparing the class of 2024 with those of previous years, saying they all experienced different ups and downs.

The Council for Quality Assurance in General and further Education and Training (Umalusi) is expected to pronounce the National Senior Certificate results tomorrow ahead of the official announcement by the Basic Education Minister.
