Fourth suspect in Emalahleni Municipality Chief Whip’s murder nabbed

Eastern Cape police have arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the murder of the Chief Whip in the Emalahleni Local Municipality, Xoliseka Lali.

He was arrested in Mthatha following an intensive police investigation.

He further led investigators to a friend’s house where three unlicensed pistols and ammunition were recovered.

Lali was shot and killed at his home in Komani last week.

Police Spokesperson, Nobuntu Gantana, has not ruled out the possibility that the pistols may have been used in other crimes.

“The suspect cooperated with investigators, leading them to a friend’s house where three unlicensed pistols and ammunition were recovered. The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing as part of standard procedure to establish possible linkages to other crimes. A separate case of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition has been opened. Both the fourth suspect (the outstanding murder suspect) and his friend face these charges and will appear at the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court,” says Gantana.
