Four of the five individuals arrested in connection with the disappearance of journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli are expected to appear in the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga today.
The suspects face charges of hijacking, kidnapping and possession of suspected stolen property. Police say they were arrested separately on Sunday in villages around KwaMhlanga.
According to police, one of the suspects led investigators to an area near Rust De Winter in Limpopo, where two bodies believed to be those of the missing couple were discovered in the bushes. The remains were found next to each other, more than 70 kilometres from where the couple was last seen on 18 February 2025.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya confirmed that the bodies have not yet been formally identified.
“Some of the people that are involved, they brought us here to this area and we started combing the scene and we did come across certain bodies – though bones, but with some clothing. And we still have yet to confirm through DNA whether these are the people that we’re looking for and also to take the DNA from the family so that we can compare,” says Sibiya.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola also stated that DNA testing is required to confirm the identity of the remains.
Police say they are still searching for two additional suspects who are on the run. The case is expected to resume today, and authorities say more charges may be added as the investigation continues.
