Four Mpumalanga police officers remanded in custody following theft

The four police officers arrested for theft and defeating the ends of justice have been remanded in custody by the Barberton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga. Sergeant Danisile Mahlangu, Sergeant Mandla Ndlovu, Sergeant Bongani Dlamini and Sergeant Doctor Zulu allegedly searched a house of an alleged paymaster of illegal miners in Barberton, and confiscated R1 800 000.

According to the Hawks the money was not booked-in as the exhibit. Instead they arrested and kept the son of the alleged paymaster in police custody without opening a case.

Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Dineo Sekgotodi says the four later handed in only R200 000 of the money seized from the house.

They are expected back in court on Tuesday.
