A former municipal manager of the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality has been arrested by the political killings task team in connection with the murder of the ANC Youth League Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa.
Magaqa was a councilor in the municipality, when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle he was travelling in, in 2017.
The 55-year-old had previously been arrested in 2018 together with four others including the late Mayor of the Harry Gwala District, Mluleki Ndobe.
The charges against the suspects were provisionary withdrawn in March 2019.
Police say the suspect was re-arrested at his home in Malvern in Durban.
Two accused are currently on trial for Magaqa’s murder, whilst the third accused was sentenced earlier this month after pleading guilty to killing Magaqa.
The former municipal manager is expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
