Former MK convener Mary Phadi challenges expulsion

Former uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MK) convener, Mary Phadi, will approach the High Court in Mpumalanga in Mbombela today to challenge her expulsion from the party. 

Phadi’s dismissal follows allegations of misuse of party funds and her purported involvement in an assassination plot.

Party leader Jacob Zuma terminated Phadi’s membership following the allegations. 

Phadi says she has been unfairly dismissed. 

“MK is the party of the people, and it is important that the party becomes resolute and fair in how to deal with terms in the internal processes. The case is about seeking the review of the decision for expelling me from the party, the processes of the review will uncover the facts either than propaganda and the fairness in the processes that was applied and followed to expel me.”

Meanwhile, MK President Jacob Zuma says the formation of the party was a significant event in the country’s political history, especially now when the need to redress the injustices against the oppressed is at an all-time high.

Zuma was giving the keynote address at the party’s 1st-anniversary celebrations in Vosloorus on the East Rand at the weekend.

He thanked his supporters and the party leadership as they took stock of how far the party had come.
