Former miners in Ekurhuleni can register for benefits at Far East Rand Hospital

Former mineworkers around Ekurhuleni can now go to the Far East Rand Hospital to register for their social security benefits.

The Gauteng Health Department is currently embarking on a drive to have former mineworkers register for compensation due to mining related illnesses such as Tuberculosis and Silicosis.

Four other registration centres were opened last week.

Provincial department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba adds that the ex-mine workers around Springs and surrounding areas can now register at the Far East Rand Hospital crisis centre from the 28th of July until the 22nd of August.

“Other registration sites which opened last week continue to operate during weekdays at Thelle Mogoerane Hospital, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Tambo Memorial Hospital and also Pholosong Hospital,” says Modiba.
