Former Umgungundlovu District Mayor, Yusuf Bhamjee has passed away at the age of 74.
Bhamjee was redeployed by the ANC from the KwaZulu-Natal legislature to the district in 2008, to turn the local government’s affairs around. He served as mayor until 2016.
Expressing their condolences, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has described Bhamjee as a champion of transformation and service delivery. He will be laid to rest today.
ANC Spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Mafika Mndebele says Bhamjee was awarded the Andrew Mlangeni Green Jacket for his contribution to sports activism.
“The ANC in KZN is mourning the passing of comrade Yusuf Bhamjee. Bhamjee was one of our pioneers at Umgungundlovu District and he has executed the task with care and precision. As a movement, we have lost one of the most dedicated and loyal servants of the people. We doff our revolutionary banner in honour of our hero. We would like to send out heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives,” says Mndebele.
