FlySafair cabin crew strike over pay and work schedules

FlySafair cabin crew have downed tools. The striking workers that the South African Cabin Crew Association represents are demanding higher wages and the revision of the roster.

FlySafair says it does not anticipate any disruptions to its flight schedule.

The airline also says that more than two-thirds of its cabin crew have committed to continuing to work.

This comprises non-union members and union members who have formally accepted the company’s 5.7 percent wage increase offer.

FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon says an agreement has not been met.

“Unfortunately, the parties did not finalise the settlements today, despite constructive engagement, as the employer initiates work stoppage that will commence from midnight. Flysafair’s full roster is, however, protected with all schedules with flights covered by non-unionist and unionist that have excepted the company’s offer.”
