[FILE image] Floods during heavy rain
At least 35 houses at Bergman Square in Bloemfontein have been flooded following Friday’s heavy rainfalls.
The manager of the Red Cross Society in the Free State Claudia Mangwegape says the humanitarian organisation’s volunteers have been on the ground since last night assessing the situation.
She says they will offer affected families humanitarian relief aid. Mangwegape says the area is prone to flooding.
“The houses are waterlogged at the moment. We have about 35 households that are affected. There is also flooding inside the houses. Now we are in a rainy season, so we should be finding a solution towards this area because the place is not habitable for people to stay in. We will then engage all the necessary stakeholders.”
