Grade 11 learner from the Martie du Plessis Special Needs School, Kamogelo Baukudi.
Free State police say they are questioning the five men arrested in connection with the kidnapping of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi.
Earlier this morning, police rescued the Grade 11 learner who was kidnapped on the 5th of June while on his way home from school.
This brings the total number of arrests in the case to six.
Police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele says, “This morning, we embarked on an intelligence-driven operation which led us to Wepener township of Qibi where the three suspects were intercepted on the road in the company of Kamogelo and that led us to a house in the same township where two other suspects were arrested.”
“The five suspects were taken into custody and we expect that they will appear in court soon.”
Makhele also says that Baukudi will undergo an in-depth medical checkup, although he seems to be in good health.
“He has been reunited with his mother. He looks very tired and you will understand the time he spent being held at this house. And then he will definitely have to go for a medical checkup, just to check his condition further in depth, but he’s fine. He doesn’t show any visible injuries, so we can say he’s safe at home.”
