Police are searching for suspects following the fatal shooting of five men in the Madikizela informal settlement on the Cape Flats on Sunday.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile suggested the killings may be linked to extortion syndicates operating in the area.
“We are on top of the game, but this incident has shown us that maybe we need to up the game again. We cannot let it go because all along we have been going down but we have seen this week or most probably last weekend in some areas there some serious incidents that happened. We need to up our game and we are going back on the drawing board with our partners in the areas,” says Patekile.
He confirmed that additional officers will be deployed to the Cape Flats to address escalating violence and strengthen partnerships with community stakeholders.
