Police in KwaZulu-Natal say the five suspects who were killed in a shootout with officers on Thursday morning at Bester in Inanda, west of Durban, were wanted in connection with various cases.
They include the killing of police officers.
Thursday’s incident comes after another one in which police shot dead suspects at Amaoti, also in Inanda, on Wednesday.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says that at the end of November, the suspects attempted to kill police officers by shooting at them and they have been elusive ever since.
“On Thursday morning, police received information about their whereabouts, and intelligence was operationalised. When police arrived at the scene, the suspects fired shots towards police officers through the door. Police returned fire, and during the shootout, five suspects were shot and fatally wounded. Four firearms have thus far been recovered, and the search is yet to be conducted. No police officers were injured during the shootout,” adds Netshiunda.
