Five people have been killed in a crash between two vehicles on the N1 in the Free State. The collision occurred between Ventersburg and Winburg on Sunday evening.
Emergency Services spokesperson Sipho Towa says the incident occurred due to slippery road conditions caused by rain.
The injured are being treated in hospital.
Mpumalanga crash leaves six dead
Meanwhile, six people have died and eight more sustained serious injuries following a crash between a minibus taxi and an SUV in Dullstroom near Belfast in Mpumalanga.
The Provincial Safety, Security, and Liaison Department says the cause of Sunday’s crash is under investigation.
The department’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, says the driver of the minibus taxi sustained slight injuries.
“A sports utility vehicle SUV and a minibus taxi collided in a side-swipe collision on Sunday afternoon. Six of the deceased were all passengers in the minibus taxi. The eight people sustained serious injuries and they include seven passengers in the minibus taxi and the driver of the SUV.
