Five Gauteng Traffic Wardens are being treated for wounds in hospital after they were shot at Daveyton in Ekurhuleni in the early hours of this morning.
A group of 12 individuals was stopped near the Daveyton Railway station to be searched during a routine patrol. The group opened fire with high-calibre weapons.
Gauteng Community Safety Department spokesperson Ofentse Morwane says the group fled the scene.
“We will not be deterred to do our work and deal with lawlessness and criminality at all all levels. Traffic Wardens and other law enforcement officers serve on the frontlines daily, ensuring the safety of communities. Any form of intimidation, or interference with officers in the execution of their lawful duties is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
