The scene of a crash that has left five people dead on the N2 near Cintsa outside East London in the Eastern Cape
Five people have died on the N2 near Cintsa outside East London, Eastern Cape.
Department of Transport Spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the road is closed to traffic due to a crash involving a minibus taxi.
Binqose says the driver and another female passenger sustained serious injuries.
“The adverse weather conditions experienced all across the Eastern Cape have had a hand in this accident as the driver who is among the survivors claims that he was avoiding a tree that had fallen on the road when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, killing the five people. He along with a female passenger has injuries and has been rushed to hospital. We are calling on road users to be extra vigilant and extra careful, under these conditions to avoid accidents like this one that we are seeing today,” adds Binqose.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes such as the old Transkei Road.
