Five dead, nine injured in Limpopo taxi crash

Five people have died and nine others have been injured when a minibus taxi overturned on the D4285 road at Matilu village, outside Marble Hall in Limpopo.

Transport authorities say preliminary reports indicate that a mechanical fault might have been the cause of the crash.

Limpopo Traffic MEC spokesperson Dali Tshifhiwa says all the injured have been taken to Matlala Hospital.

“MEC for Transport and Community Safety Violet Mathye is saddened by loss of lives in an accident which occurred on road D4285 Matilu Village in Ephraim Mogale Municipality Sekhukhune District. ​As we approach the Easter weekend, I urge road users to be more cautious. On behalf of the Department and the people of Limpopo, I wish to convey our sincere condolences to the families and next of kin to those who lost their lives. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
