Five suspects have been arrested for house robbery and kidnapping in Umhlali on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast late last night. The suspects allegedly broke into a home in Shakashead, within the Umhlali Policing Precinct, where they terrorized a family of three.
According to police, the armed suspects removed a safe from the bedroom wall and interrogated the victims about their vehicles. They then assaulted the victims before forcing a 32-year-old male family member to withdraw money from a nearby ATM.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the suspects left the house with the victim in their vehicle, while the victim’s mother immediately contacted SAPS Umhlali.
Police responded swiftly, intercepting the suspects’ vehicle just 100 meters from the crime scene. The victim was rescued, and all five suspects were arrested.
The suspects have been charged with house robbery and kidnapping and will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court soon. The vehicle used in the crime was recovered, and the victims received medical treatment
