Three deceased Free State constables.
The first of three funerals for the police constables whose bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Gauteng is set to takes place on Thursday.
Boipelo Senoge died along with two of her colleagues, Keamogetswe Buys and Cebekhulu Linda.
Senoge would have turned 25 last Sunday. Her birthday came only days after her remains were retrieved from the river and confirmed by her family.
The three constables went missing on the 23rd of April and were found in the river six days later following a suspected car crash.
Senoge’s unit commander at the Park Road Police Station, Constable Mandile Mkhetho, says, he had looked forward to doing something for Senoge on her birthday.
“She was very happy, more than happy, but you don’t know why and there is one thing that she said to me. She said, ‘Ntate Mkhetho, don’t forget it’s my birthday next month’. That happened to be the 5th of May and it broke my heart because I was prepared actually to do something for her.”
Mkhetho also described Senoge as a true soldier and someone, who brough light and happiness to her work unit.
“I’ve learnt that happiness is one thing that is very important as a person. You need to be happy at all times. If you’re not happy try by all means to make sure that you do things that will make you happy. This is what I have learnt from her. She was very at all time. She actually joined our shift last year, I think around July, that’s where she started working in this shift.”
Mkhetho says says Senoge lived a purposeful life.
“The life of Senoge was just like what I have just read right here. Everyone had a purpose in his life. We might be complaining that it was too soon. The life of Jesus – Jesus started with the ministry only at 30 years old and he died at the age of 33. But he fulfilled his purpose. Senoge had a purpose although it was short. But she did what she was supposed to do here in this world. And I want to say let’s turn our hearts to the Lord, he knows everything. The Bible says he who has given has taken. It’s he that has given us Senoge, it’s he the Lord that has taken back what he has given us,” says Mkhetho.
Constable Senoge will be buried on Thursday. Her funeral service will be held at the St Peter Anglican Church in Rocklands in Bloemfontein.
