First accused in Meyiwa case expected back on the stand

The first accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Muzi Sibiya, is expected back on the witness stand on Monday.

Sibiya took the stand last week and is the first witness to testify for the defence.

He has denied any involvement in the murder of the slain Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

Meyiwa was shot and killed while at Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus in 2014.

Advocate Zandile Mshololo is expected to cross-examine Sibiya, who denied being in Gauteng in October 2014, when the soccer captain was murdered.

According to the key state witness, Constable Sizwe Zungu, all five accused were at a hostel in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand, on the day of the murder.

On Friday, the matter was adjourned to allow Advocate Mshololo, who had been absent from court for two days, to prepare for her cross-examination.
