Fire in Table Mountain National Park contained

The fire that broke out on Sunday in the Table Mountain National Park, above Boyes Drive and in Peck’s Valley in Cape Peninsula, has been contained.

SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw says ranger removed several groups that were found illegally starting fires in the area.

Louw says they also issued fines for the violations of fire safety regulations. He says mop-up operations have begun.

Louw urged members of the public and hikers to avoid the surrounding trails until further notice.

During the fire, no infrastructure or residential properties were damaged and no major injuries were sustained by firefighters.

There were volunteer wildfire services firefighters who received medical assistance for smoke inhalation.
