The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) Fire Services have been deployed to a fire in Languedoc, Stellenbosch, which is burning in the direction of Boschendal Wine Estate.
The fire is being fueled by strong winds. Spokesperson, Anesca Roodt says together with the Winelands Fire Protection Association, Boschendal Wine Estate has deployed three helicopters to assist ground teams.
She says multiple properties are under threat and aerial resources will focus on property protection.
“Farmers, agricultural-workers and volunteer groups are also supporting firefighting efforts with water tanks. There is a significant amount of smoke in the area. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and give way to firefighting vehicles. The Cape Winelands District Municipality Fire Services can also confirm that a fire has been reported in Langrug, Franschhoek, where a ground team has been deployed,” Roodt says.
