Fire crews contain Albertinia wildfire after overnight efforts

The Garden Route District Municipality says cooler conditions have helped to contain a raging wildfire near Albertinia.

Fire crews worked overnight to extinguish the blaze. Several thatch roof homes on private property were affected by the fire.

Fire Chief Deon Stoffels says crews are busy with hotspot areas and damping down operations.

“The western fireline was the head of the fireline yesterday, and this is the prioritised area for today, in close proximity to infrastructure. This operation will continue into the night, right throughout the night by the Garden Route District Municipality night shift team. We urge residents of the area, as well as visitors, to apply extreme caution around vegetated areas, as our area has been going through a drought and the vegetation is highly susceptible to quick ignition,” adds Stoffels.
