The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) says the African National Congress (ANC) policies are driven by what it calls “anti-Western ideology”, and this is evidenced by the ANC’s condemnation of the removal of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro.
United States elite Delta Force troops captured Maduro last weekend under the cover of airstrikes.
The FF Plus says the ANC cannot speak on behalf of all South Africans on Venezuela or foreign policy.
FF Plus leader Corné Mulder has welcomed recent US action against Maduro, describing Maduro’s government as illegitimate and responsible for widespread human rights abuses.
“The ANC cannot speak on behalf of South Africa regarding the events in Venezuela. The Freedom Front Plus has repeatedly pointed out that the ANC’s ideologically driven by anti-Western policy does not reflect the sentiments of all South Africans and is not in the best interest of South Africa and our own positioning in international relations. The Freedom Front Plus welcomes the actions of the United States taken against Nicolas Maduro to make sure that he will stand trial for the indictment and the charge sheet against him for all the acts that he is being accused of.”
Mulder says critics of the US have remained silent for years while Venezuelans endured poverty, repression and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
He has also accused the ANC of hypocrisy in its stance on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine – among other things. Mulder says Dirco’s move to take the issue to the UN Security Council was a unilateral ANC decision, not a position agreed to by the GNU.
